This e-book is one of those thrillers that not only make the pulse pound, but stirs the heart and emotions as well. This exciting and intriguing book has strong, unique characters and a solid plot with surprising twists and turns. Strong, tight writing and a fast moving pace kept me glued to the pages. And I just loved the setting of the North Carolina Mountains. This author had lots of witty lines. I loved the `blonde Xena' line. You'll have to read it to know what I'm talking about, but it was so funny.Chapter One starts off with a bang. It begins 10 years earlier when we meet fifteen year old Jewel who wants to protect her wolves from being shot. Hunters want to hunt the endangered red wolf species. She takes things into her own hands and things seem to get out of control with a HUGE shocker. This author definitely had my attention. Jewel's character is more complicated but that's what I liked the most. She was different. I thought she was scary but at the same time, I could feel her emotion as Chowa, her alpha male was shot. So I know how much she loved her wolves. We also meet Laura who is a housewife and her 12 year old son is believed to be dead. Laura knows he's alive because he called her on the phone and said to come get him before she is cut off. However, she'd seen his burnt body and his ring on his charred finger. But his face had been burnt too badly to identify as her son. Laura goes on a frantic hunt for him which leads her to Jewel. And I don't want to give the plot away but the tension, drama, danger and mystery make this book extraordinarily hard to put down. I was Laura's personal cheerleader as I rooted for her the entire book!
I definitely give this author 5 stars. Just a gripping and fantastic read!

I'm not much of a one for thrillers. Most of them should be called "dullers" if you ask me. But this one surprised me by actually gripping me right from the opening scene. Jewel is a fantastic anti-hero. I couldn't help rooting for her in spite of her being a murderous, selfish, heartless, fornicating bitch.
I've been a huge fan of Sandra Davidson's romance novels and when I came across this new suspense thriller I just had to buy it. The author does not disappoint with her latest novel. There are so many twists and turns you can't wait to find out what happens next. A well written book and worth reading again and again.
Two pages into this story, and the plot is already thickening! Very tense thriller, with a nice evil character that makes Cruella DeVil seem like Mother Theresa. The pace is tight, and story well exposed this is a great book to take on vacation, and enjoy the pure twistedness of it.
This book belongs on the NYT best seller list for the summer. I am not familiar with Sandra Davidson's Romance work, as romance is not really my favorite genre to read, but she has definitely mastered the art of writing thrillers.
Veteran romance writer, Sandra Davidson, throws herself into the suspense genre with the skill and precision of a champ. In a tiny mountain town in North Carolina, a battle between conservationists and cattle ranchers polarizes the region. We have a feisty, ferocious woman who loves wolves beyond reason, and who manipulates a spineless veterinarian. Is she our heroine? Then there is a mousey housewife who would rather drift into insanity than face life's unpleasant realities, such as a needy husband--the kind of namby-pamby victim we like to sink our jaws into and watch suffer. Then a wolf escapes, a necessary and compassionate murder, then a kidnapping. Davidson deftly turns the tables, and the well-intentioned become insane, and the insane find their reason.
The pacing here is masterful, chiffhangers that make you breathless, with complications that compound and twist the storyline. Everyone in this tale of human frailty is compromised, everyone lies when it is convenient, everyone betrays those closest to them. Valor comes from the least expected places. Sit back and enjoy the tale--you are in the hands of a master storyteller. Apart from some moments of sentimentality, this is a tale worthy of Stephen King.
With lots of twist and turns it keeps you in suspense the whole time wonderful Author glad to see her finally writing again

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the way you had us guessing as to who was going to get killed off.
